My outside unit is leaking water. What do I do?
  • Heat pumps have to go into defrost mode, some water runoff is normal. Please be cautious in the winter months as this water may refreeze on the ground and become slick.

My electric bill was really high this winter, even with my heat pump. Whats wrong?

  • Is the thermostat set to emergency heat? If so you are by passing your heat pump and using your electrical heat instead. Switch your thermostat to heat to utilize your heat pump and start saving money on your electrical bill.
  • Are you manually varying the temperature on your thermostat? If so then you are making your heat pump work harder than it should. Use a programmable thermostat to set temperatures or manually set it at a comfortable temperature and leave it there. You can modify room temperatures by closing vents or adding space heaters.

There's smoke coming out of the top of my heat pump. Should I worry?

  • That's not smoke. When the outdoor unit switches to defrost mode there may be a loud air break noise and steam will come out of your unit. This is normal.

My indoor unit makes different noises in the summer than in the winter. Does this denote a problem?

  • That's nothing to worry about. Sometimes due to the seasonal changes in outdoor temperature and the reversing of the freon the indoor coils sound different
